Home delivery staff boosted by new tech

LOGISTICS giant GXO Logistics Inc has signed a deal with homewares retailer Dunelm to increase the capacity of its Stoke-ontrent warehouse. Online sales at Dunelm have risen by more than 115 per cent in the last 12 months, leading to a surge in demand for home delivery. Now GXO has signed an deal with Dunelm to kit out its Sideway distributi­on centre with new technology which will help the retailer meet increasing demand. As part of the deal, GXO will provide Dunelm with wireless wearable barcode scanners and train Dunelm staff to use advanced new systems. The aim of the upgrade is to help colleagues work faster and more efficientl­y in the run up to the retailer’s peak sales season in January. Gavin Williams, GXO’S managing director for the UK and Ireland, said: “We’re very excited about the opportunit­y to work with Dunelm, which saw a 115 per cent surge in online sales in the last 12 months. “We’re looking forward to helping the company increase its capacity for home delivery, especially in the run-up to its peak homewares sales season.” Brett Morris, head of parcel home delivery at Dunelm, added: “We’re delighted to be working with GXO, which has a proven ability to improve logistics with large customers around the globe. “We looked at our outstandin­g growth in online sales as well as at our expectatio­ns for further growth and realised we needed to increase capacity and improve our customer propositio­n within home delivery operations.

“The agreement with GXO will help us add the capacity necessary to handle growth of our home delivery business and reduce our carbon emissions by making our deliveries more efficient. “Long-term, working with GXO will benefit our shareholde­rs and customers as well as our suppliers and communitie­s.”
