OLD BOYS HIT THE GOAL TRAIL AS THEY CLOSE THE GAP TO CITY LADS

LEEK CSOB produced a superb away performanc­e to win 8-4 at City of Stoke in the Staffs County League Men Unite Premier Division. Two goals apiece from Mike Keates and Jakob Priestman, together with strikes from Sam Potts, Sam Wainwright, Drew Bennett and Tom Walton, saw City of Stoke drop down to fifth. Leek are now only two points and one place below their rivals. Brereton Social are up to third after a 6-0 thrashing of Abbey Hulton United.

A brace apiece from Max Marshall and Ben Elcock was added to by Callum White and Ollie Bird to earn a sixth win in seven outings. Alsager Town edged out Ashbourne 3-2 in a thrilling encounter at Wood Park. Alsager took the lead inside 45 seconds through Ben Chesters, but Ashbourne were quickly level thanks to a Sam Birks effort.

The home side nosed back in front by the ninth minute, though, as Joel Jones found the back of the net. Ashbourne were reduced to 10 men in the second half, but managed to find a leveller when a clearance struck Richard Wright and nestled in the net.

But just as the visitors thought they had rescued a point, a cross from the left was headed home by substitute Liam Shaw to seal the points for Alsager. Foley Meir and Audley played out a 3-3 draw. Visitors Audley went ahead in the eighth minute through Kyle Clarke, but Tristan Barker restored parity on the half-hour.

Foley went into the break ahead as Andrew Lloyd netted, but a quick reply followed from Audley on the resumption courtesy of an own goal.

And Audley were 3-2 up as Elliot Spooner put his name on the scoresheet, although Foley levelled on the hour through Josh Dunne. A second-minute goal from Jeff Jolley was enough for Wolstanton United to see off Hanley Town in their meeting, while Silverdale Athletic won 5-2 at Buxton. Jon Hughes netted on nine minutes, with Callum Lovatt adding a second shortly after half-time.

A Josh Davies penalty on 56 and a Macauley Davies addition a minute later dented the Bucks’ resolve with the powerful Jon Hughes adding the fifth on 80 minutes.

The Buxton goals came from Finlay Heath and Harry Payne.

Eastwood Hanley ran out 8-2 winners against bottom side Lichfield City.

The hosts were two up after six minutes through Tom Smith and Kieron Ball. The same duo added a further goal each before half-time with another coming from Josh Graham. Lichfield pulled one back on 30 minutes from Gary Smith.

The second half saw Graham netting his second with Matthew Majer adding a seventh. Lichfield’s Smith netted his second but the home side’s dominance saw Ball complete his hat-trick. In Men Unite Division One, second-placed Wolstanton Reserves secured the three points with the only goal of the encounter coming from Jake Brereton on 74 minutes when they took on Stone Old Alleynians Reserves. Cresswell Wanderers put six past strugglers Chesterton. The newly-promoted side’s goals came from Aaron Allcock, Tom Johnson, Sam Lycett, Tom Wheeldon, Jack Weeldon and Billy Wiggin. The sole reply arrived from Ross Mcdonald. Audley Reserves scored in each half through Jamie Harley and James Mason respective­ly to sink Ball Haye Green Reserves. In Men unite Division Two, Pelsall Villa Colts saw off Cheadle Town Reserves. Villa raced into the lead as Matthew Wood’s double, plus goals from Will Osbourne and Alex Porter left them 4-1 up at the break. Check Bamba netted for Cheadle. Cheadle responded and Curtis Levey and another Bamba effort reduced the deficit further.

Tom Hayes edged Villa 5-3 up, but a late Kalifa Fofana goal left Villa pleased to hear the final whistle. A first-half hat-trick by Harrison Bostock helped AFC Alsager Developmen­t to victory over Blurton. Daniel Mousley scored in the second half to round off a 4-0 win.

Stone Dominoes won 4-1 at Florence Developmen­t. Callum Foxley Dean score twice, with Sam Finney and Luca Chandler ensuring a good afternoon. Walsall Phoenix Developmen­t defeated huthman 5-1, while Warstones Wanderers took the points against Ashbourne Developmen­t thanks to a 2-1 scoreline.
