The new chain’s Facebook page doesn’t give much away - other than it has branches confirmed in both Stoke-on-trent and Wolverhampton...

BURGER fans will soon have a new place to get their patty fix after posters advertising a new city centre restaurant were put up. The windows at the one-time Shaw Trust charity shop in Hanley are now covered in posters promoting Betsy’s - which the chain boasts has ‘world famous burgers’.

How world famous the new chain is is up for debate. Its Facebook page doesn’t give much away, other than it has branches ‘confirmed’ in Stoke-on-trent and Wolverhampton.

A post on September 23 simply said ‘Coming soon!’ before further posts promoting a series of mouthwatering burgers.

It comes after planning permission was granted for a change of use for the unit at the corner of Stafford Street and Trinity Street in order to turn it into a restaurant. A design and access statement - submitted in support of the application - stated: “Currently, the existing shop unit is vacant and has been for a period of at least 6 months.

“Our client has tried to lease out the unit under its existing class use, but there has been limited interest and the unit remains vacant at this current time.

“The proposal is to only change the class use and use of internal space within the ground floor element of the property, therefore the scale of the building will not be altered from its current form.

“The existing shopfront and entrance will remain unchanged from that currently.”

In approving the application, the city council confirmed the development would help create eight new jobs ‘which is widely welcomed’.
