PENSIONERS RESCUED IN FIRE DRAMA
Dog also saved as road is closed off
BRAVE passers-by rescued an elderly man and woman from a burning home after flames ripped through the property.
They got the duo and a dog out of the fire-hit property on High Lane, in Burslem, yesterday.
Part of High Lane was closed and the building was cordoned off with police tape. The road was reopened last night.
Now Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service have launched an investigation into the blaze.
Francesca Pheasey today praised her loved-ones after they joined the rescue effort.
She said: “My mum and daughters were there helping the elderly lady and her brother as well as her dog. I’m very proud of my girls.”
Rescuer Lily Pheasey added: “I was there and helped out with this terrible fire.”
Firefighters were called to the property at 3.45pm.
Speaking from the scene, fire service incident commander Tim Plant said: “When we arrived the ground floor was well alight.
“There were two elderly people at the property - a man and a woman - and they were already out of the house, along with a dog. They suffered minor injuries.
“The ground floor has been affected by the fire and the upstairs has been affected by smoke. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.”
The fire service later added: “Crews have dealt with a severe house fire on High Lane, in Burslem.
“The fire is now extinguished and a fire investigation is taking place to try to determine the cause. All persons from the property are safe and well.”
The Sentinel has also contacted Staffordshire Police and
West Midlands Ambulance Service for statements following the blaze.
