FINALLY – BACK IN THE SWING!

Popular Sentinel Charity Golf competitions return after two-year break for pandemic

GOLFERS from across North Staffordshire and South Cheshire are being urged to sign up to two Sentinel

Charity Golf competitions.

The Sentinel Cup and The Sentinel

Shield are both open to members of recognised golf clubs within our circulation area.

Both competitions will get under way in June with the semi-finals taking place on Sunday, August 21, 2022 at Newcastle Golf Club and the finals on Sunday, September 11, 2022 at Trentham Golf Club.

The Sentinel and KMF are, once again, sponsors of the competitions with the winners lifting the prestigious trophies.

Competition chairman Amrik Rai is hoping for a great turnout of golfers for the return of the event. He said: “Due to the overwhelming response in the past, and the importance of getting the competitions under way this year, we have decided to make entry free as a thank you for the support given to us over the years. Entries may be restricted due to timescale and the numbers we can accommodate.

“We would therefore encourage competitors to enter as quickly as possible to avoid disappointment.”

In addition, Lindsay Bainbridge has donated two pieces of art from local artists, and author and Sentinel columnist David Proudlove has donated two signed books to assist the charity fund.

The competition involves rounds of individual match play golf. The rules of golf apply as in individual match play golf with full handicap allowance.

The maximum handicap index of Cup entrants is to be 10.9. Players up to handicap index of 13.0 are permitted to enter but they must play off the maximum handicap index of 10.9.

The Shield is open to players between the handicap index of 11.0 and 20.0. Those up to a handicap index of 28.0 may enter but they must play off the maximum handicap index of 20.0. If a match is all square after 18 holes the tie is to be decided by ‘sudden death’ play-off.

To enter the competition the entry form must be completed. They can be found at your golf club or in The Sentinel newspaper or search Facebook ‘stoke sentinel golf competitions’ (all lower case).

The closing date for entries is May 23, 2022.
