‘MAN IN DISTRESS’ FIGHTING FOR LIFE AFTER A50 INCIDENT
Air medics among emergency response crews as traffic brought to standstill
A ‘MAN in distress’ suffered ‘life-threatening injuries’ following an incident on the A50.
Police are investigating after emergency crews were called to the road in Longton.
At the incident’s height, one carriageway was blocked and drivers were diverted away.
Now officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Paramedics, the air ambulance, and police were called out at 10.10am yesterday.
Staffordshire Police confirmed the man’s injuries were believed to be life-threatening.
A force spokesman said: “Officers were called to the A50 in Longton at approximately 10.10am on Monday following reports of a man in distress. Police attended alongside paramedics and found a man with serious injuries at the scene.
“The A50 eastbound was closed and officers diverted traffic away from the area while paramedics assessed the man.
“He was conveyed to hospital for treatment. His injuries are believed to be life-threatening at this time.”
A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to an incident on the A50, near to Longton at 10.10am yesterday morning and sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer, a Basics doctor and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire to the scene.
“On arrival we found one male patient who was treated for serious injuries before being taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital by land ambulance for further treatment.”
Meanwhile police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident – or has CCTV or dashcam footage – to come forward.
