SEATON’S HALF-CENTURY HELPS STAFFORD TO NET MAIDEN WIN

- Chris Travers

STAFFORD were left celebrating their first NSSCL Division Two victory of the season in their home clash against Stone SP seconds.

Stone SP, promoted at the end of last summer, suffered a third successive defeat after making the step up.

The visitors were bowled out for 122 at Riverway, in which Henry Mountford and Phil Cheadle both made 23.

Matthew Turner claimed 4-17 for Stafford - before the baton was passed to Guy Seaton.

Opener Seaton struck 63 not out, including seven fours and one six, to help Stafford to complete a fivewicket win.

Jack Harvey picked up a couple of wickets for Stone SP, but they sit bottom of the early table.

Caverswall, Moddershall & Oulton seconds and Porthill Park 2nd XI are in a three-way tie at the top after they all maintained their impressive starts to the campaign.

Caverswall turned on the style in cruising to the points on their visit to Little Stoke.

Vishva Chathuranga was the star attraction for Caverswall - with both bat and ball - as they banked a third straight win.

Chathuranga compiled 86, off 73 balls, striking 11 fours and two sixes, to form the backbone of Caverswall’s 221-6 from their 40 overs. Jake Edge chipped in with 26, while Sohail Hussain grabbed a couple of wickets.

Little Stoke’s reply was a forgettable affair from their point of view as they were bundled out for a mere 53.

Oliver Edwards (16) and Tim Twigg (11) were the only batsmen to make any headway as Jamie Ball scooped 4-23 and Chathuranga added 3-2.

Moddershall & Oulton seconds are also in fine fettle after winning by three wickets at Barlaston.

Barlaston, who have lost all three matches, made 149 all out as Jack Davies top-scored with 43 and Ben Grange contributed 20.

Rory Jones and Matthew Wright claimed 5-31 and 3-19 respectively.

The Modd men made a poor start to their chase as they slipped to 2-2.

However, Josh Renshaw (42no), Joe Beeston (25) and Farhan Sheikh (22) ensured that the in-form visitors reached their target. Mason Bromley claimed 3-21.

Porthill Park seconds made it a hat-trick of wins with a four-wicket success at Leycett. But they had to dig deep after finding themselves in a spot of bother in their run chase at Park Terrace.

Set 119 for victory, Porthill Park tumbled to 55-6, but Will Kilgariff and Jake Plummer rode to the rescue.

They weren’t parted - Kilgariff making 38 not out and Plummer adding an unbeaten 28 - as the visitors overhaul their hosts.

Muhammed Ahmed and Tom Lawton shared four wickets for Leycett.

Leycett had been indebted to Oliver Shirley (44) for seeing them to 118 all out, but Niall Hassett’s 4-10 kept the target manageable.

Oakamoor ran out 30-run home winners against Bignall End.

James Smith (38), Tom Sherratt (32) and Sean Sutton (26) were in good nick as Oakamoor posted 145 all out.

Seamer Adrian Lello Junior (3-17) and left-arm spinner George Harding

(3-24) took three wickets apiece for the visitors.

Harding made 24 after tea, but Harry Smith’s 3-20 was instrumental in Bignall End being bowled out for 115.

Silverdale were nine-wicket winners at Alsager. Alsager could only muster 100 all out as Syed Bukhari captured 3-21. James Bloor (25) and Aqeel Ahmed (20) were the principal contributors with the bat.

That total was no issue for Silverdale as they lost just one wicket in banking the spoils.
