MEIR KA AND HANLEY HAVE SIGHTS SET ON SENTINEL TITLE

-

MEIR KA Under-16s and Hanley Town Under-16s are aiming to clinch the Sentinel Shield tonight.

The duo meet at Leek Town (7.15pm) as they look to add their name to the list of winners in the competition’s 128-year history. Hanley Town, under the leadership of Barry Sergeant and assistants Dan Berrisford and Wayne Minton, will arguably start as favourites for tonight’s final. They have been in freescoring form to navigate their way through to tonight’s showpiece at Harrison Park.

They kicked off their campaign with a thumping 12-0 victory over Mossfield United in the first round. Hanley Town were pushed in the second round, though, as they edged past Ball Haye Green 5-4.

They have since followed that up by recording 7-2 wins against Sneyd Green and Nantwich Town Under-15s respectively in the quarter and semi-finals.

Meir KA face a testing task, but have also showed that they can be dangerous in front of goal.

They defeated Bradwell Yellow 7-2 in the first round, before receiving a bye in the second after Madeley Under-16s withdrew from the competition.

In the quarter-finals, Lee Sage’s side saw off Blurton Hornets 4-1, before a 2-1 success against Nantwich Town Under-16s in the last four.

Both sides have named 18-man squads for tonight’s fixture as they look to end their respective seasons with a prestigious piece of silverware.

All spectators are welcome to attend tonight’s encounter at Leek Town. Admission is priced at

£4 for adults and £2 for concessions and a healthy crowd is expected to cheer on the two teams.

All monies raised from the Sentinel Competition’s go back into the local community help supporting the local charities, groups or individuals.

Already in the Sentinel events this season, Leek Town have won the Sentinel Cup and Halmerend clinched the Sentinel Sunday Cup.
