IT’S very much a family affair at a new café that is serving up a range of snacks and desserts.

Charlene Jones has opened Sugar Coated in Liverpool Roadin Kidsgrove.

The 21-year-old is being supported by mum, Clare Myatt, and sister Kalee, aged 18. The cafe sells drinks including tea, coffee, cappuccino, latte, espresso, hot chocolate, Americano and milkshakes.

And it serves up an impressive range of sandwiches, paninis and toasties as well as cookiedough, cakes and waffles and ice cream.

Charlene, of Endon, who also works in a Burslem pharmacy, said: “I think that Kidsgrove is lacking in the market for something like this. There is another café but we are going more for desserts and milkshakes, cakes, cookie-dough and waffles and ice cream.”

The café is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 1pm on Saturday. Charlene added: “Everybody we have spoken to has enjoyed our food. We got the keys a month ago and we have spent a lot of time and money getting it how we wanted it. It was literally just a shell before.”

Mum Clare said: “I am helping Charlene. It has taken a while to get it up and running, but it has been well worth it and everybody seems happy so far.

“At the moment we are buying the cakes but we are looking to bake our own. We do already sell homemade brownies.”
