FORMER world’s strongest man Eddie Hall has opened up about his health battles – including long covid – after ending up in hospital.

The Beast was discovered by his wife Alex slumped over and unconscious back in January 2020.

At his temperature soared dangerously-high, Eddie was rushed to the Royal Stoke University Hospital where he remained for a couple of days.

The 34-year-old is still struggling with symptoms two-and-a-half years on, including insomnia, chest pain, anxiety and depression. He is currently working with doctors on an official diagnosis.

Eddie, from Clayton, told Men’s Health: “I was ill, and I mean seriously ill for at least three-and-a-half months.

“I had a temperature, I couldn’t sleep and I lost 30 kilos in body weight. My temperature rose to 41C.

“I was at home watching TV, and then I just fell unconscious. My wife came in and shook me to wake me up. She was like ‘that’s it I’m ringing an ambulance’.

“I had to get an ambulance to the hospital. As soon as I got my temperature down, I was thrown out.

“Since then, I’ve got the symptoms of long covid, it’s been horrendous. I’ve been having real trouble sleeping. “You can hear, it’s still on my chest now. It’s not really going away. I’m working with loads of doctors at the minute, so yeah, pretty much I’ve been diagnosed with long covid.”

Eddie also caught covid for a second time a week before being defeated by Hafthor ‘Thor’ Bjornsson in a boxing match.

At one point, he feared he was going to have to cancel for a second time after previously tearing his bicep.

He added: “After the fight it’s been tough, but I’m just taking my time with it. I think one of the things I did the first-time round was I had a burnout.

“I had covid, and with the fight coming up, I tried to get back to training too quickly.”
