A MCDONALD’S employee is gutted – after losing her precious £500 engagement ring in Nando’s.

Zoe Hughes realised her ring – from H Samuel – was missing the day after she had gone for the meal at the restaurant in Hanley.

The 21-year-old was proposed to by 23-year-old Billy Thorley in February during a trip to York. The couple have been together for nearly five years and were excited to be taking the next steps in their relationship.

But when Zoe, from Meir, went out with nine work colleagues on June 6, she took her ring off and hasn’t seen it since. She is now distraught and has had to buy a replacement.

She said: “We went to York where he proposed to me. There’s a ghost shop in York and they sell handmade ghosts and he put the ring on one of those. I was really shocked but super happy about it.

“We went out with work for a Nando’s at around 8.30pm. I had the ring on at the time. I took it off in the restaurant and realised it was missing after we had left. I took it off and it was lying on the table.

“The next day I went to put it back on but it wasn’t there – and that’s when I realised. I was pretty distraught.

“We called the restaurant and went there because we knew that was where we had lost it. But they said they hadn’t seen it.

“We are going to have to replace it now which is upsetting. The ring meant a lot to us, especially because it’s the one I chose and I really wanted.

“It was even more special because it’s the one he proposed with. My mum has put posts up on all the missing pages.”
