‘I NEVER REALLY WANTED TO GO ANYWHERE ELSE’

- MIKE BAGGALEY

PORT Vale striker Jamie Proctor had no hesitation in committing his future to the club despite interest elsewhere.

The 30-year-old was out of contract at the end of the season but will be part of Darrell Clarke’s squad for League One after signing a new deal. Proctor joined Vale on a free from Rotherham last summer and went on to score 13 goals to help the club win promotion.

“I am over the moon, with the success we had last season, personally and as a group,” he told the club’s Youtube channel. “The first thing that came into my mind at the end of the season, especially with promotion, was how quickly can we get it done and if there was going to be something on the table for me. “I never really wanted to go anywhere else. There were other options out there for me to consider but ultimately the way this club looked after me, and the special memories we created last year, have given me belief that we can continue that.”

Proctor has played more than 200 games in League One, appearing at that level for Preston, Shrewsbury, Crawley, Fleetwood, Bradford, Bolton, Rotherham and Wigan as well as in the Championship for Preston and Rotherham.

He’s looking forward to being back in League One with Vale. He added: “That is probably one of the things I am looking forward to the most, doing it with Vale and with a group that I bonded with last year, and I feel such a part of after only being here a year.

“It is really a special group and

I am looking forward to testing myself again League One where I have played the majority of my career.”
