60 APPRENTICE ROLES ON OFFER
Places to be filled at leading firms in city
AROUND 60 apprenticeship vacancies are up for grabs at some of Stoke-on-trent’s biggest businesses.
Achieve Training is looking to fill a record number of apprenticeships at leading employers including Stokeon-trent City Council, Churchill China, Aspire Housing, Portmeirion and Listers.
The Hanley company, which rebranded from PM Training in April 2021, has seen a drop in the number of new starters over the last three years.
But now it is encouraging youngsters to learn more about the variety of opportunities up for grabs.
Achieve Training’s executive director Dan Canavan said: “Our apprentice intake was going up by 10 per cent year on year up until covid, but the number of new starters we are getting through our door is now declining.
“We believe the reason for this is down to a lack of access to schools during covid.
“So over the past two years, school leavers have had limited access to impartial careers advice.
“There is still a bit of a stigma around apprentices and we want to show people what an apprenticeship really is.
“We want young people to know that we can help them with whatever they want to do.”
The apprenticeship vacancies up for grabs via Achieve include:
■ Manufacturing apprentice at Solidor;
■ Production operative apprentice at Listers;
■ Lithographer apprentice at Churchill China;
■ Customer service apprentice at Jones and Shuffs;
■ Business administration apprentice at Portmeirion.
Dan said: “We still offer brickwork, joinery, property maintenance, painting and plumbing courses but since we rebranded we have established a number of new partnerships with some big, local firms which means we have lots of new opportunities in areas such as manufacturing, business and digital.”
Achieve Training is hosting a number of events at its Canavan Centre, on College Road in Hanley, over the next two months to showcase its apprenticeships.
The first is an open day on Wednesday, July 13 followed by an apprenticeship fair on Wednesday, July 20. On Saturday, August 6, it will host an apprenticeship extravaganza between 10am and 4pm.
