COSENS AND WAIN STAR IN WOOD LANE SUCCESS

- Chris Travers NSSCL Division Seven

WOOD Lane seconds openers Michael Cosens and Ian Wain found conditions to their liking to help to set up their side’s NSSCL Division Seven win at Onneley.

The duo compiled a first-wicket stand of 187 with Cosens making 102 and Wain adding 71.

Cosens needed just 78 balls to reach his tally, hitting 18 fours, while Wain’s knock contained 12 fours and one six.

And with Harley Ashby making 46, Wood Lane reached 277 all out... with a dramatic end to their innings adding to the entertainment.

Mohammad Razaq finished off proceedings with a hat-trick to end up with figures of 5-51.

Ash Hall replied with 74 for Onneley and Rafakit Mohammad added 39, but two wickets apiece for Codie Knight and Ollie Challinor left the home side on 203-7 at the close.

Cheadle thirds were also in fine batting form on their trip to take on their Checkley counterparts.

They piled up 277-2 from their 40 overs to put them firmly in command of matters.

Adam Alcock (31) and Sam Cliffe (28) impressed early on, but it was Ahsan Shahid and Joe Degg who were the stars of the innings.

Shahid hit 14 fours in his unbeaten 102, and Degg smashed 13 boundaries and two sixes in his 90 not out as the pair put on 167 for the third wicket.

William Carr took both of the wickets to fall.

Euan Bratt then captured 4-19 after tea to leave Checkley thirds all out for 89, despite Travis Robinson leading the resistance with 22.

Audlem were five-wicket winners at home against Rode Park & Lawton seconds

Three wickets apiece from Callum Mcilveen (3-13) and Simon Swift (3-21) left Rode Park & Lawton all out for 115. Ian Harding made 33.

In the run chase, Dan Butler and Mcilveen both contributed 41 and Dave Parkinson completed matters with an unbeaten 26.

Audley thirds had a fine away day as they returned from Endon seconds with the points.

Half-centuries from Peter Slinn (57) and Steve Smith (51) were the principal contributions to Endon’s 167-8. David Cooper and Thomas Boundy shared four wickets.

Boundy was then in fine form with the bat as he made a run-a-ball 73, featuring 10 fours, to see Audley to a three-wicket triumph.

Support came from Thomas Mason, who made 26, and Oliver Palmer’s 20.

Porthill Park fourths defeated Sandbach seconds by six wickets.

Hosts Sandbach were limited to 133-8 from their allocation as Charlie Chorlton took 4-12.

Tom Kesteven (31), Ben Collett (30) and Tilly Kesteven (29) made the most progress with the bat.

Alfie Jerman picked up a couple of wickets in reply, but Craig Chorlton’s unbeaten 48, 42 from Declan Coxon and Auyush Deshpande’s 27 helped the visitors to their target.

Kidsgrove executed a fine run chase to win at Woore seconds.

Grove were set a tricky-looking 222 to win, but had more than three overs remaining when they banked a fivewicket win.

Adam Shaw’s 65 set them on their way, with Christian Barber (49) and 38 apiece from Danny Roberts and Ian Bailey sealing the deal.

Andy Kenvyn captured 3-41 for Woore, who had earlier seen Michael Griffiths (48), Amy Griffiths (43) and Daniel Manning (42) all shine in their 221-6. Shaw took 3-47.
