A POPULAR pub is giving its beer garden a major refurbishment – just in time for summer.

The Parogon Pub Group has lodged plans to replace the outdoor drinking area at the Grade Ii-listed Orange Tree Bar and Grill, in Trent Vale.

The company wants to improve the outside of the venue with new planters, glass screens and LED lighting as well as new bench seating and tables.

It also wants to install a timber storage area on the Newcastle Road pub’s car park.

A planning application submitted to Stoke-on-trent City Council said: “No alterations are to be made to the main building.

“The works only concern the replacement of the existing external seating area with a better quality provision.

“It is not considered that any of the proposals will interfere with the listed nature of the building nor detract from its appearance. In addition, all the proposals are easily reversible.”

It added: “The current, temporary installation sits directly on a part of the car park and comprises a number of metal planting troughs placed end to end, with fixed seating.

“The proposal is a simple swap out for a more robust installation.”

The Parogon Pub Group which owns a number of popular venues in Staffordshire, Cheshire and Shropshire including the Swan with Two Necks at Blackbrook, The Wayfarer in Stone and Blockhouse at the Sheet Anchor in Baldwins Gate.

In a post on the Orange Tree’s Facebook page, the pub said: “You may have noticed some working going on outside our venue.

“Our outdoor area is currently having a major refurbishment for summer 2022.

“We would like to remind guests that we are still open during this time and we can’t wait to see the finished design. It’s going to be a great summer.”
