BANNED DRIVER, 24, GAVE COPS FALSE DETAILS AFTER A500 STOP
Now she’s been given a further driving ban
BANNED driver Sameena Khan gave police a false name and date of birth when they stopped her on the A500.
The 24-year-old then gave another name but police checks showed she was banned and uninsured.
Now Khan has been handed a 12-month community order and a six-month driving ban at North Staffordshire Justice Centre.
Prosecutor Simon Dykes said police stopped a Ford S-max, driven by Khan, on the southbound carriageway of the A500 at 11.15pm on November 4. Mr Dykes said: “The defendant gave a false name with a date of birth which would have put her in her forties.
“She gave another name but was reported. She was unable to produce a form of insurance policy. Checks were made and the defendant was disqualified from driving at that time.”
Mr Dykes added: “She gave a false name to the police to avoid being apprehended for driving while disqualified. She was disqualified under the totting up procedure for six months on September 16, 2021.”
Khan, of St Andrew’s Drive, Newcastle, pleaded guilty to obstructing a police officer; driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.
Joanne Corbett, mitigating, said Khan had been out with her ex. Miss Corbett said: “Her ex was driving. However, when he was driving he was drinking alcohol so she took over the driving. She drove the car home. She just wanted to get home from Manchester. It does not excuse her but it explains why she acted in the way she did.
“She gave false details. She was fully aware she was a disqualified driver. She was frightened of the consequences.
“She has had no contact with her ex. She is a single parent of a young child.”
As part of the community order Khan must complete a rehabilitation activity requirement for 20 days and 60 hours unpaid work. She was fined £185 and ordered to pay a £95 surcharge.
