‘A couple of wins will catapult us right back up there’

KIDSGROVE BOSS SAYS SEASON NEEDS KICK-START

AFTER three defeats and three draws in their last six matches, Kidsgrove Athletic need “that elusive first win to kick start us off again”.

That’s the view of manager Scott Dundas who has seen his team slip from top of the Northern Premier League West Division table at the start of the season to 14th, in the main, due to a host of injuries.

Mason Fawns scored a 59th-minute equaliser at Bootle last weekend in a 1-1 draw on a day when Aaron Bott, inset right, and Ernest

Ofosu made welcome returns from injuries.

“We played a lot better,” said Dundas. “It helped that we got a couple of players back who started with Ernest and Aaron.

“Ernest has been outstanding for us at the start of the season and then he went off with a foot injury for the last three or four months which has impacted our results massively.

“He went off at the same time as our leading goalscorer Aaron.

“He came back on Saturday too and started. He also won a penalty which we missed. “So just adding those two players added fresh impetus. “Ernest played for 70 minutes and did what we expected of him. He did very well. So did Aaron. He played for 60 minutes as well. “He looked good. He gave us what we know he can give us. “In that aspect it was a much better performance than in previous weeks and really we should have won.

“But if you miss penalties you don’t win games.”

Winning will be the aim at home to Avro, tomorrow, who sit ninth in the table.

The irony is, despite their position in the league, Kidsgrove can still make the top five.

“It’s all doom and gloom because we haven’t won in the last six games, we’ve drawn three and lost three,” said Dundas.

“We are still only six points off the play-offs and it’s just a couple of wins.

“And everybody is still beating everybody.

“So a couple of wins catapults you back up there.

“We just need that elusive win to kick us on again.

“We are also still in the Staffordshire Senior Cup quarter-final against Walsall Wood.”

That game is scheduled for March 12.
