When baby Evan gets a bruise on his leg, Dawn and Billy are concerned – but they have no idea of the nightmare they will soon be living.
They’re told by Dr Liam to take him to A&E, whose staff are concerned they might be accused of hurting him – the truth, however, is much worse: Evan is very sick and needs a bone marrow biopsy.
Dawn and Billy are reeling, and Dawn is advised not to feed Evan as he must remain nil by mouth until he’s had the biopsy. She struggles to soothe the baby, and Billy returns home choked up as he tells Dawn’s father Will and Kim that Evan may have an infection, autoimmune disease or leukaemia.
Will and Kim rush to the hospital just as Evan is being taken for his biopsy. The doctor later confirms that Evan has a form of leukaemia, and Dawn buckles as her worst fears are realised. Will Evan be able to make a full recovery?
Meanwhile, Chas is lifted by the solidarity from supportive women around her and decides to go to the Woolpack with her prostheses for the first time. It’s a big step, although Kerry threatens to ruin it. Later, Charity helps Chas begin to come to terms with her new reality: her surgery scars.
Ruby is furious when Moira splashes her while driving. Later, the pair block a lane in a road rage stand-off. Caleb orders Ruby to apologise, but instead she decides to start a rumour about Moira.
With the businesses struggling, Jimmy suggests a village fete to boost custom, an idea Nicola grabs with both hands to distract herself from her worries about Angel.
