FAVOURITE SHOPS Miss Can

Visit the São Jorge Castle and, when on your way back, stop by Miss Can to grab a couple of cans of fish, or sit down and enjoy its fishbased tapas and a drink. miss-can.com/en

Underdogs Art Store/ Montana Lisboa

A jointly managed coffee shop, which is also an art shop – you can buy artwork from urban- inspired local artist and sit with a coffee and a cake, riverside. under- dogs.net/news/underdogs-public-artstore-montana-lisboa/

Ler Devagar

A former printing house turned bookstore,

Ler Devagar (Read Slowly) boasts an exceptional collection of books, including second-hand books, and is a true bookworm’s heaven. lerdevagar.com/

FAVOURITE GALLERY MAAT

Contemporary art lives side by side with industrial archaeology at the ancient Tejo Power Station, now Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology. Good for families with children, too. maat.pt/en

FAVOURITE RESTAURANT Ponto Final

Located on the south bank of the Tagus river, Ponto Final is only a five-minute ferry ride from Cais do Sodré and serves some of the best locally sourced seafood.

FAVOURITE MARKET Time Out Mercado da Ribeira

Traditional market on one side, hipster food court on the other. My favourite delicacy is the tuna sandwich ( prego de atum) at Sea Me, a food stall specialising in seafood.

FAVOURITE WAY TO SPEND AN HOUR

Walking in the labyrinthine lanes of Mouraria and Alfama and taking street photos. Although one hour may be too limited for me.

BEST VIEW

Cross the Tagus river and go to the south bank, in Cacilhas, only a five-minute ferry ride away. Enjoy the view walking riverside, or take the elevator to the high part of Almada and visit the gorgeous garden at Casa da Cerca.

THE ONE THING YOU HAVE TO SEE IN LISBON

Definitely the view from the south bank of the river.
