Less than an hour from Glasgow
Step off the tiny ferry from Balmaha onto Inchcailloch, the largest of a string of islands at the southern end of Loch Lomond and you enter another world. Blissfully, there are no roads on the 130-acre isle, only well signposted footpaths. From the jetty, one takes you through a wooded valley to Port Bawn, a natural harbour and lochside clearing that is the campsite. And there you have it, a whole nature reserve to yourselves, for two nights (the maximum stay allowed) at least. Inchcailloch, Loch Lomond, Stirlingshire
