My day in cups of tea
WE ASKED DEVON-BASED WOODWORKER ROSIE BREWER TO DESCRIBE HER DAY IN CUPPAS
Rise and shine! What are you up to?
I’m not exactly an early riser and need some gentle easing into the day. My boyfriend makes a coffee for himself, and hands me a tea in bed. I’m a bit of a collector of herbal teas and my current morning favourite is elderberry and echinacea.
OK, we’re good to go. How’s your commute?
I work from my garden workshop, near Dartmoor in Devon, so my commute is around 30 seconds. My cat, Pickles, pops in throughout the day.
Tell us a bit about how you spend your day.
I make and sell wooden kitchenware – serving boards, spoons and butter knives among other things. My routine varies, depending on what pieces I need to make. I plane the wood, saw it, sand it by machine and by hand, then carve the finer details and finally oil it.
Time for a break, we think. What do you fancy?
A peppermint tea, perhaps with a ginger biscuit or a piece of chocolate brownie. I usually bring it back out to the workshop, giving myself a little break to see what I’ve achieved so far. This gives me a chance to plan the rest of the day’s work and get an inkling of what I’ll be doing the next day.
Do you have a favourite mug?
I have a couple of beautiful ones from Anthropologie. They can hold an ocean of tea, ideal for sipping away over time.
And what about distractions? Do you have any sites you like to look at?
It’s very easy to pass the time on Instagram! There are so many inspirational makers and stylists on there – I’ve always admired @arielealasko, and @thefreakytable.
Time to unwind. Do you have a cup of anything to help you relax?
I like to drink a chai or mixed berry tea – it’s fruity, relaxing and great after a meal.
