The start of a new season is a natural time of transition, where we pause to reflect and plan for the next phase of the year. Astrologer Donna Taylor looks at the coming season in your star sign and offers her guidance on how to find balance and contentment in the months ahead

Pisces 19 February – 20 March

A positive new chapter begins as a New Moon falls in your sign in March, followed by Uranus moving into your mind zone in May. Now is the time to invite change. It is also probable that something in your life is ripe for healing and perhaps that ‘something’ is you. Pisces has a tendency towards feeling guilty, and this can hold you back. Try being a bit more loving and compassionate with yourself, as this will work wonders and enable your true spirit to take flight. As Goethe, German poet and author once said: “Magic is believing in yourself; if you can do that, you can make anything happen.”

Aries 21 March – 20 April

“Life isn’t a business to be managed, it’s a mystery to be lived.” Indian mystic Osho encapsulates the mood for spring as a cluster of planets aligns in your zone of soul and synchronicity, making this the ideal time to take a step back from the madness of modern life and find magic in that which is often overlooked. You may find, for example, that your dreams have valuable messages, or that your intuition is urging you to do or not do something. By taking a moment to tune in with yourself, you will be able to make better choices and discover a richness that was lacking before.

Taurus 21 April – 20 May

As Uranus, planet of revolution, prepares to enter your sign in May, it’s as though you can sense that life is about to change. Perhaps you feel a buzz in the air, or a tingle of anticipation. You could even be feeling a little edgy, as Taureans aren’t known for their love of change. The New Moon in March, though, is an auspicious omen and hints that this is a change for good. Remember that you don’t need to move mountains to make a difference. As former British prime minister, Benjamin Disraeli, said: “The greatest thing you can do for another is not just share your riches, but reveal to them their own.”

Gemini 21 May – 21 June

“There is only one success; to be able to spend your life in your own way,” said Christopher Morley, novelist and poet. It’s easy to get swept up in the notion that being successful means having the big house, new car and the prestigious position. However, there is a price to pay for all these trappings: the soul. Be mindful of your desires in March and April – when the planets activate the hopes and dreams area of your chart – and refuse to be swayed by other people’s opinions of what you should do. This spring is about new direction, but make sure it’s a direction you want to be heading in.

Cancer 22 June – 22 July

We can’t always get people to see things the way we do and nor should we, for the world would be a dull place if we all thought the same. We can, however, learn from what others have to offer, and if you are able to see other people – particularly ones you’re not seeing eye to eye with – as teachers, you will break an impasse. With March bringing an adventurous mood, and April and May preparing to open up a whole new world for you, it’s silly to get bogged down in petty squabbles. As French essayist Joseph Joubert said: “A part of kindness consists in loving people more than they deserve.”

Leo 23 July – 22 August

“A simple life is not seeing how little we can get by with – that’s poverty – but how efficiently we can put first things first,” wrote author Victoria Moran. For spring, it’s good to ask: what do you need to put first? With a cluster of tricky planets gathered in your zone of health, it may be that your wellbeing should take priority. Or it could be that your work feels too demanding. Or maybe it’s the pile of paperwork that you can no longer ignore. If life feels a bit much, then it’s time to adopt a simpler approach. Take a step back and consider what really matters to you and then begin discarding the rest.

Virgo 23 August – 22 September

“You will find, as you look back upon your life, that the moments when you really lived are the moments when you have done things in the spirit of love,” said Henry Drummond, writer and lecturer. Aside from spring’s romantic flavour, potentially facilitating greater intimacy, you may also benefit from considering how much of your heart is engaged in not just relationships, but in everything you do. Is it, for example, time to let go of a creative project if your heart’s not in it? Or can you put more heart into the things you have to do? Loving what you do will help to create a more inspiring situation.

Libra 23 September – 23 October

“If you’re not happy at home, you’re not happy anywhere else,” said actor Angie Harmon. Most people’s homes aren’t perfect. Neither, for that matter, are their family relations. It may help to remind yourself of this, as a cluster of awkward planets gathers in your domestic sphere, otherwise it is likely that one or two dramas will play out, unsettling you. Instead of getting caught up in the negatives, realise that you have the power to make constructive changes at home, whether it’s having a clear out or focusing on your family’s good qualities. Appreciation may be the virtue that changes everything.

Scorpio 24 October – 22 November

“A great attitude does much more than turn on the lights in our worlds; it seems to magically connect us to all sorts of serendipitous opportunities” – Earl Nightingale, motivational speaker. Our attitude is the key to happiness. If we embrace life positively, we’re more likely to succeed. Even if you’re usually positive, it may be that with Mars, Saturn and Pluto in your mental zone, your attention is drawn to the things that are ‘wrong’ in your life. The challenge you face is to not open your door to fear, resentment, doubt and cynicism, but to welcome instead, creativity, fun, optimism and generosity of spirit.

Sagittarius 23 November – 21 December

Early spring brings new beginnings in your domestic sphere, from changes to your home, to positive family developments. Jupiter’s sojourn through your soulful zone adds to this domestic phase by enabling you to connect with something more meaningful. The only fly in the ointment could be your material life, but difficulties here can be resolved with constructive action and a willingness to see things differently. “It’s not how much money you make, but how much money you keep, how hard it works for you, and how many generations you keep it for” – Robert Kiyosaki, businessman .

Capricorn 22 December – 19 January

It’s likely to be all systems go throughout spring as Mars, Saturn and Pluto occupy your sign, pushing you to make changes. Jupiter continues through your social zone making this the time to show the world what you’re capable of, to do what needs to be done, and progress with your own interests. Ultimately, spring urges you towards greater authenticity, to do more of that which ignites you. As Howard Thurman, civil rights leader, says: “Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that; what the world needs is people who have come alive.”

Aquarius 20 January – 18 February

“Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like” – Lao Tzu, Chinese philosopher. Although spring begins with a positive focus on your material life – making March a good time to turn over a new leaf where money is concerned – the emphasis changes in April and May towards your personal life, in particular home and family and your private inner world. Use this time to work out what’s really important to you and to prepare to break from the past.
