My day in cups of tea Phew! Tell us a bit about what you do, and why. We’ll take a look! Back to work – what’s next?
WE ASKED MANCHESTER PRINTMAKER JO WRIGHT TO TELL US ABOUT HER DAY IN CUPPAS
Morning! First cuppa of the day?
I need an Earl Grey to ease me into the day. If I’m lucky, my partner, Stu, will bring it to me in bed.
One Earl Grey down, what’s next?
After breakfast – toast with honey or marmalade – I drop Stu at work, my daughters at college and uni, and walk Cookie, our Australian Shepherd. I’m an artist, printmaker and designer. I fell into printmaking after a holiday in Canada. We spent ages watching a young black bear in the wild and I knew that he’d make a wonderful lino print. I’ve been selling my prints and designs for more than seven years now. I’ve a home studio, where I can look out over our wild garden for inspiration.
And do you have a morning routine?
It’s packing orders, restocking local shops, a visit to the post office and answering my emails. I’ve started a year-long printmaking course at Hot Bed Press in Salford, so Mondays are spent with beautiful old printing presses and great company.
The kettle’s on, what do you fancy?
I’m an Earl Grey addict! Medium strength with a splash of semi-skimmed milk, or maybe some delicious loose-leaf almond tea, mmmm…
How else do you like to switch off?
Having a cuppa is great for taking time with my Dream Plan Do planner by The Design Trust. It’s a fantastic resource for creatives. I also enjoy Instagram – @justacard, @joannehawker and @tinnedsnail are some of my favourites. In the afternoon, it’s linocuts or perhaps some fabric screenprinting. Work stops when everyone is home and stomachs are rumbling, around 6pm.
Time for bed – one last cuppa?
I’ll sip a cup of soothing Rooibos tea with a chapter or two of whatever I’m reading.
