The Simple Things

A rosy red winter

INSPIRED BY THE FLOWERS AND DEEP REDS FOUND IN CHINESE PAINTING, GUDRUN SJÖDÉN’S WINTER COLLECTION IS SUMPTUOUS

-

Roses are the star of the show with floral prints on organic cotton that pair beautifully with block-colour pieces crafted from linen jersey, heathered alpaca and other tactile fabrics.

MORE ECO THAN EVER

True to its folklore heart, the brand – famed for its rich colours – has always had its designs turned into fabric by suppliers with strong textile craft traditions. Its mission is a more eco-conscious production of clothes that can live for many, many years rather than fast fashion. Their modal fabric, made from cellulose, is sourced from European beech forests and every stage of the manufacturing process is certified to environmental standards.

Team their retro-looking Blomster dress with a beret made from recycled cashmere yarn. How satisfying to know you’re wearing something made from materials that would otherwise be discarded; their cosy and colourful winter accessories also use surplus materials from other production lines.

This sustainable approach applies to the printing processes that Gudrun Sjödén uses, too. Printing patterns digitally reduces water consumption as well as retaining the hand-painted feel of an original. The botanical pattern on the Pensla dress started out as a watercolour painting and has been repeated as a surface pattern design in various rich colourways.

A CREATIVE UNIVERSE

There is a creative community around the Gudrun Sjödén brand. Women who cherish nature, eco design and individual expression come together for regular workshops in the London store. Find out more at gudrunsjoden.com/uk or on Facebook at Gudrun Sjoden English and Instagram @gudrunlondon
