The Simple Things

Make a summer scrapbook

(like you did when you were little)

-

It’s likely some of your plans for this summer are a little different to expectations, but a log book or scrapbook is a lovely way to record memories, no matter how grand (or not) your plans. Remember when school holidays stretched deliciously for weeks before you and you scribbled about garden days in your notebook and assiduously kept postcards from friends? You can recapture that with a grown-up summer scrapbook. One day it will be a little piece of history.

you will need:

A really nice scrapbook. Treat yourself to something you love. We like those notebooks that have pockets in and a mix of squared and plain pages A good pen

Some colouring pencils or pens A selection of washi tapes or ordinary sticky tape

1 Record your summer in whatever way you wish. You might want to have sections for wildlife you spotted, plants and edibles you grew, walks you enjoyed, meals you cooked, friends you saw or spoke to and books you read. Or you might prefer to create your pages one day at a time as a diary.

2 There’s no pressure to write anything more than brief notes, but feel free to pen pages of poems or essays if you wish, it’s all up to you.

3 Illustrate your pages with notes, drawings, doodles and things stuck in. That might be photos, clippings from magazines, postcards and letters you received, children’s drawings, pressed leaves and flowers.
