RAITH ROVERS made it a remarkable seven home victories out of seven as they kept their play-off hopes alive by edging out Morton thanks to a stoppage-time strike from club captain Jason Thomson.

The win for the Stark’s Parkers – their fourth in a row in the league – moved them up to second in the Championship.

Clearly determined to maintain the excellent home form which they have displayed during the early part of the season, Raith began promisingly with Mark Stewart finding his way behind the Morton defence after only 35 seconds.

His low shot was held by the well-positioned Derek Gaston in the Morton goal.

Having survived this early scare however, the visitors began to assume control with midfielders Michael Tidser and Bobby Barr looking comfortable as they orchestrated proceedings from the centre of the park.

They came close to taking the lead when Peter MacDonald sent a 30-yard free kick narrowly wide.

Rovers had created very little other than Stewart’s first-minute effort but they finished the first half strongly.

James Craigen saw his close-range effort saved superbly by Gaston then Stewart was denied by Lee Kilday’s blocking tackle.

The Kirkcaldy side took the lead on the stroke of half time, Stewart steering the ball past Gaston after Thomson had headed down a Ryan McCord corner.

’Ton defender Thomas O’Ware looked to have ended Raith’s winning run when he lashed the ball home from Barr’s corner eight minutes from the end but the home side simply would not give up.

They were rewarded when Thomson scrambled the ball over the line in the dying seconds of the match.
