(Morton win 3-4 on penalties for bonus point)

GOALKEEPER Andrew McNeil was Morton’s main man as he made a couple of excellent penalty saves to allow Morton to take the extra point against Albion Rovers.

The dull 0-0 draw had a pre-season feel to it as neither team looked match-ready.

The game started at a fairly tepid pace with neither side able to take control.

The deadlock was almost broken by Albion in the 13th minute when a cross by Ross Davidson was met at the back post by Calum Ferguson, who should have done better as he flashed his header wide.

The hosts continued to have the better of possession and again could have been one up in the 40th minute when a 20-yard effort by Davidson was well saved by the ex Hibs man.

The second half started in much the same way with Albion on top but failing to create any clear-cut chances.

They did have a couple of penalty shouts first in the 58th minute when McNeil dived at the feet of Scott McBride, the Morton goalie being adjudged to have gotten to the ball first.

The second one looked clearer cut after a shot by McBride was parried out by the Morton goalie.

In the chase for the loose ball Ferguson looked to have been bundled over by Morton defender Lewis Strapp but again the referee was not convinced.

The match then petered out to penalties with Morton offering next to nothing as an attacking force throughout, one snapshot by Jon Scullion aside.

In the shoot-out McNeil saved Reid’s kick to give Morton the advantage.

Forbes had his kick saved by Stewart to put the shootout back on level terms, until McNeil’s further heroics from Fisher won a bonus point for the visitors.
