Deadly floods

TORRENTIAL rains that swept through China this week have left at least 112 people dead and 91 others missing.

Rains caused streams to flood, triggered landslides and destroyed homes.

The northern province of Hebei has been hit hardest, with 72 killed and 78 missing.

In the Hebei city of Xingtai 25 people were killed.

TURKEY’S President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has extended the period in which suspects can be detained without charge to 30 days. He has also ordered the closure of more than 1000 private schools following last week’s failed coup.
