2003

-

THIRD in our league of summer crackers is 2003.

That year saw a new record set for the hottest day in August as Greycrook in the Scottish Borders got up to 32.9C...on August 9.

In fact 2003 holds the record for being the hottest summer north of the Border.

The blistering temperatures were played out across Europe with tragic results. About 15,000 people died due to the heat in France that year.

Drinking water supplies were affected in some parts of the UK and hosepipe bans were introduced.
