JAPANESE technology company Funai Electric – thought to be the last manufactur­er of VHS recorders – is to produce its final device this week.

Introduced in the 1970s, videos have given way to DVDs and Blu-ray in popularity over the last 20 years.

Despite the lifetime guarantee to re-record that was once offered on cassettes, it looks like videos will fade away into history.
