- Clyde win 6-5 on penalties for bonus point

CLYDE picked up a bonus point thanks to John Gibson’s save from Graeme Beveridge’s penalty that secured a 6-5 spot-kick success after the sides had finished level at 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Clyde started brightly and Ewan McNeil flashed a shot wide from 16 yards after seven minutes. Then, as the Bully Wee kept up the pressure, Scott Linton headed into the side-netting.

David Gormley also found the wrong side of the net in 15 minutes with a close-range effort after his first attempt with a header had been blocked.

Berwick grew into the game but they faced another moment of danger on 27 minutes when Dylan Easton curled over a free-kick but Peter MacDonald’s eight-yard header drifted wide.

The visitors’ first effort on target almost produced a goal in 32 minutes when Jordyn Sheerin battled his way through the Clyde defence and chipped John Gibson but the shot-stopper stretched tall to grab the ball.

The deadlock was broken four minutes into the second half with Clyde going in front thanks to a well-worked goal. Easton fed Gormley at the edge of the box. His clever pass sent MacDonald free and he deftly chipped past the advancing Sean Brennan.

MacDonald came within an inch of doubling his side’s lead on 55 minutes when he robbed Lee Hamilton in the box and exchanged passes with Gormley only to send a shot against the bar.

An angry flashpoint flared up on the hour mark after a Hamilton challenge on Scott Linton resulted in bookings for the Berwick man as well as team-mate Kevin McKinlay and Clyde’s Martin McNiff.

The Shielfield men were all smiles again on 64 minutes when they levelled thanks to a fine solo goal from Jordyn Sheerin. The striker pressurised Phil Johnston into a mistake on the halfway line before making his way towards the home goal. Sheerin skipped past McNiff before sending a low shot into the corner from 18 yards.
