Amanda Burton started the corpse-cutting ball rolling as dour Sam Ryan, whose moody looks led to a hilarious French and Saunders spoof, Witless Silence. Following her departure, Emilia Fox took over as Dr Nikki Alexander, somehow cracking cases that baffle the cops. The 20th series is currently being filmed.
