Great memories

I REMEMBER the opening of the Tay Road Bridge.

I worked at a home in Newport-On-Tay and the matron gave us time off to go and see the Queen Mum.

I can’t remember if I was more excited about the opening of the bridge or seeing Her Majesty! Memories can be great.

■ I WORKED on the construction of the Tay Road Bridge. I painted the girders which support the bridge – they’re 8ft tall and there was a hatch to get inside them.

When finished, the paint thickness was tested by a special machine – if incorrect, it had to be painted again! Great memories.
