Road-trip delight for 10-man Clyde

-

The second goal came for Clyde five minutes before the break after a defensive error from Elgin.

Goalkeeper Stewart Black came out to the edge of the box to stop a long ball from Martin McNiff but his headed clearance landed at Peter MacDonald, who fired a shot from 30 yards into the back of an empty net.

Elgin continued to push for a goal early in the second half as Shane Sutherland played in Craig Gunn but the striker’s effort was just wide of the post.

Keeper John Gibson prevented Elgin a goal as he blocked a Sutherland shot on the 76th minute.

Clyde were reduced to 10 men in the 81st minute when Martin McNiff stopped the ball with his hand just outside the box as Elgin pressed.

COWDENBEATH 0 BERWICK 2

HARD-WORKING Berwick grabbed a good win on the road despite injury problems.

Berwick took the lead in 27 minutes when Steven Thomson nipped past Gerry McLauchlan and cleverly slipped the ball wide of keeper Dave McGurn.

Seven minutes later, the visitors stretched their lead when McGurn dropped a simple ball into the box and Thomson was lying handy to tuck it away from 10 yards.

Cowden started the second period brightly and Mullen’s 25-yarder went just wide. Then Berwick keeper Kevin Walker made a spectacular save from Gary Glen’s 12-yard drive after good work by Renton.

EDINBURGH CITY 0 MONTROSE 1

MONTROSE striker Gary Fraser was the hero as the Gable Endies recorded their first win of the season at Meadowbank.

In a match that had all the makings of a tight affair, Fraser’s 61st-minute strike was the difference.

The goal had a stroke of good fortune as Calum Antell in the City goal failed to deal with a tame header, parrying the ball out to Fraser two yards out to lift the ball into the net.

The hosts were given encouragement in the 85th minute when Terry Masson was sent off for a second bookable offence but could not find a way to goal.

FORFAR 4 STIRLING ALBION 1

FORFAR ATHLETIC maintained their 100% record with their sixth league win in succession to remain clear at the top.

Forfar made the breakthrough in the 26th minute when Andy Munro stooped to head home a Gavin Swankie corner from inside the six-yard box.

Right on the stroke of half-time Albion levelled through a brilliant strike from Sean Dickson.

But the hosts regained the lead after the break when Swankie teed up Josh Peters to sweep a shot home from just inside the box.

With three minutes left, Peters grabbed with a cute finish before sub Danny Denholm added No 4.

ARBROATH 1 ANNAN ATHLETIC 1

RYAN McCORD struck deep into stoppage time to earn a point for Arbroath — as Annan had two men red-carded for protesting at the strike.

McCord’s late volley cancelled out a David McKenna strike as Annan manager Jim Chapman and midfielder Omar Rabin were sent off for dissent.

In fairness, Arbroath should have had the game wrapped up by half-time.

The hosts created several chances — twice striking the woodwork — and forcing several saves out of Annan keeper Blair Currie.
