Send ing off has Lennon seeing red

-

NEIL LENNON will consider appealing the red card shown to Marvin Bartley after insisting referee Nick Walsh cost Hibs a historic triumph.

Hibs were hunting their sixth Championship win on the spin, which would have secured a place in the record books as their best ever start to a League campaign.

Despite Ayr United turning in an admirably-resolute showing, the capital club were well on their way to achieving that feat when Jason Cummings curled home his eighth goal of the season in spectacular style.

However, the game was turned on its head when Marvin Bartley was dismissed by referee Nick Walsh for a late challenge on Jamie Adams before goals from Conrad Balatoni and Brian Gilmour secured a stunning 2-1 win for the Honest Men.

“The red card completely changed the game and I’m not convinced it was a red card,” said Lennon.

Queen of the South maintained their unbeaten start to the League campaign with a 3-1 victory over Raith Rovers. After a goalless first 45, Stephen Dobbie grabbed a brace with sub Jordan Brotherston scrambling home No 3.

Jean-Yves Mvoto netted a consolation for the Fifers in the last minute.

Dumbarton and visitors St Mirren shared the points in a 1-1 draw. Andy Stirling put the hosts ahead after 16 minutes byt Ryan Hardie restored parity four minutes before the interval.

Morton’s search for their first Championship win ended with a 2-1 success over Dunfermline at Cappielow, thanks to Jai Quitongo’s goal on 84 minutes.

The Greenock side led in the first half through Gary Oliver’s goal. However Nicky Clark’s first goal for the Pars looked to have ensured a share until Quitongo struck.

In the evening kick-off, two late goals gave Falkirk a 3-1 home win over Dundee United. Tope Obadeyi had cancelled out John Baird’s opener for the hosts in the first half but a strike by Myles Hippolyte and a headed effort by ex-United man Lee Miller gave the Bairns victory.
