PLANS for car free day in Madrid to curb air pollution backfired when motorists got stuck in the worst traffic the city has seen for years.

The best laid plans . . . maybe they should lay tarmac over their congestion-causing bus lanes.

In fact, maybe all councils should, especially here, and we would all breathe a little easier!
