So the Queen’s fridge isn’t covered in Post-it notes . . .
My mother-in-law is 100 next year and we’ve been were joking that the Queen has a Post-it note on her fridge to remind her to send a card.
Is it true that the cards do not come automatically, and you must apply to be sent a Centenary Birthday Card from the Queen? – D. It is. Each year, thousands of birthday and wedding anniversary cards are sent on behalf of The Queen to people celebrating significant milestones.
For many, receiving a card from Her Majesty is a very special part of their celebrations.
The delivery of these messages is arranged by the Anniversaries Office at Buckingham Palace, continuing a tradition which began in 1917.
Cards are sent to those celebrating their 100th and 105th birthday and every year thereafter, and to those celebrating their diamond wedding (60th), 65th, 70th wedding anniversaries and every year thereafter.
The Queen’s congratulatory messages consist of a card containing a personalised message and come in a special envelope.
You can apply online at gov.uk/getbirthday-anniversary-message-fromqueen up to five weeks before the relevant birthday or anniversary.
If the recipient lives in Australia, Canada or New Zealand, you must apply directly to the GovernorGeneral of that country – details are available from the Anniversaries Office, call 020 7930 4832. If you have a question, write to The Queries Man, The Sunday Post, 80 Kingsway East, Dundee, DD4 8SL.
Please do not send stamped addressed envelopes as I cannot give personal replies.
