Herd goal not enough for Turriff

- TURRIFF UNITED 1 BONNYRIGG ROSE 1

A WONDERFUL goal from Chris Herd looked as though it put Turriff through but Bonnyrigg struck back to send the game to a replay.

Rose went close early on with a header from Keiran, while Turriff found it difficult to break in behind the Rose back line.

In the 71st minute, Turriff made the breakthrough with Herd thumping in a volley from outside the box.

The visitors levelled two minutes later with a well-taken goal from Adam Nelson.

David Booth had a chance to win it 10 minutes from time but his header dropped wide.

KEITH 0 BANKS O’ DEE 1

JACK HENDERSON struck in the 25th minute, firing from a narrow angle into the far corner of the net.

No one could grudge the Aberdeen side their moment of glory. They were the better side and could have won by a bigger margin.

Just before half-time Jamie Lennox almost made it 2-0 but his effort was cleared off the goal line by Michael Ralton.

Henderson was denied his second after the interval, with Ryan Spink blocking on the line.

CLACH 1 STIRLING UNI 2

STIRLING took the lead when Chris Geddes was fed in through the heart of the Clach defence and he waltzed around John Campbell before slotting home.

They doubled their advantage when great play by Dan Fitzpatrick saw him deliver the cross for Andrew Gillen to head home.

However, Clach pulled one back from a penalty when Michael Finnis fired home.

He was then given the chance to level just before the break but keeper Ryan Marshall saved.

FORRES 2 LOSSIEMOUTH 2

FORRES started well and Lee Fraser turned to blast the opener high into the net on 10 minutes.

The game turned in Lossie’s favour 10 minutes after the break when Graeme Grant got his second yellow for a foul on Ross Archibald in the penalty area and Scott Miller scored from the spot.

Former Forres striker Shawn Scott then thundered home a wind-assisted 30-yarder.

However, Joao Rodriguez lost his temper and became the second player to see red.

The Mechanics rallied and keeper Stuart Knight trotted forward to head a Simon Allan corner into the net from eight yards.

FORT WILLIAM 1 BRORA 4

JOE MALIN made a great save from Marty Munro just 60 seconds into the game and then, in the 13th minute, Jack Lingard’s effort was cleared off the line by Colin Williamson as Fort dominated.

Colin Maclean’s cross fell to Danny Highet 10 yards out and he rammed it home to give the home side a deserved half-time lead.

The Fort defence couldn’t cope with a Zander Sutherland break into the box and he fired high past David Harrison from 15 yards.

Twenty minutes from time, Craig Campbell knocked home from six yards and, five minutes later, a cross in from the right was headed home by Steven Ross to give the Cattachs a two-goal cushion.

Brora added some gloss to the scoreline when Craig Campbell netted from close range.

Craig Mainland was taken to hospital with an ankle injury.

INVERURIE 0 BUCKIE THISTLE 6

BUCKIE’S breakthrough arrived in 40 minutes when Kevin Fraser played a neat one-two with John Macleod to place a low shot under Scott Mathieson.

In the second half, Craig Dorrat headed powerfully home at the back post and Sam Urquhart hit No 3 in the 52nd minute.

Local youngster Callum Murray rounded Scott Mathieson to slot home.

A controlled finished from the edge of the box by Kevin Fraser and an Urquhart 25-yarder capped another impressive victory for Graeme Stewart’s side.

NAIRN 2, PRESTON ATHLETIC 3

WITH a minute on the clock, the visitors took the lead with their first attack. The ball got caught under the feet of Kenny McKenzie as he tried to clear and Kenny Park rammed the ball home.

It was 2-0 in 12 minutes when Daniel O’Rourke outjumped Stephen MacKenzie to power a header past the home keeper.

A Ross Naismith free-kick flashed just over for Nairn.

But the tie looked all but over in 34 minutes when the visitors made it 3-0 through Scott Barclay, who easily tapped home from close range.

Nairn started the second half brightly and a wonderful strike from Naismith cut the deficit in 53 minutes.

And the same player pulled another goal back in 69 minutes when he converted a Gary Kerr pass.

County continued to dominate and Wayne Mackintosh and Jack Maclean both went close to equalising.

SELKIRK 0 LINLITHGOW ROSE 3

ROSE booked their second-round place with a three-goal secondhalf show.

After a goalless first half, Rose struck two minutes after the interval with a goal from Graham Weir.

Thomas Coyne doubled their lead seven minutes later and then Kevin Kelbie hit a third for them in the 78th minute.
