CLYDE 0 FORFAR 1

THOMAS O’BRIEN’S firsthalf header was enough to see the Loons extend their flawless start to the season and stretch their lead at the top of the table.

The Bully Wee were first to threaten in the 19th minute when David Gormley tapped home from close range but he was offside.

Forfar’s Gavin Swankie then had a shot tipped over the bar after a smart cornerkick routine.

The deadlock was broken from the resulting flag-kick when O’Brien headed home from close range five minutes from the break.

The home side created their best chance to get back into the match shortly after the restart when Ross Perry’s glancing header bounced inches wide.

In the 70th minute, Clyde’s Scott McLaughlin went down in the area after a challenge from Michael Kennedy only for their penalty claims to be waved away.

ANNAN ATHLETIC 1 EDINBURGH CITY 1

ANNAN looked strong in the opening spell but it was City that came closest with a Marc Laird shot stopped by keeper Blair Currie in nine minutes and Ousman See shot wide on 25 minutes.

But Annan struck in 29 minutes when David McKenna got his fourth goal of the season when he drove the ball home.

Currie was the busiest of the keepers and he had to save from Craig Beattie and John Dunn in the last 10 minutes of the first half.

Disaster struck the home side in the 48th minute when Steven Swinglehurst put through his own goal to make it 1-1.

Sub Ross Allum had a chance in the 81st minute and Dougie Gair brought a fine save from Currie in the dying minutes.

STIRLING ALBION 0 ELGIN CITY 4

JIM WEIR’S Elgin were two goals up inside eight minutes.

Shane Sutherland netted the opener in five minutes when he steered a shot past Chris Smith, then Chris Dodd scored with a low drive that went in off the post.

Sutherland added the third goal on the halfhour mark with a perfect finish, and Brian Cameron missed a great chance for the fourth before half-time.

Elgin continued to cut open the Albion defence time after time in the second half but Cameron and sub Craig Gunn wasted excellent opportunities.

Gunn struck in the last minute with a fine firsttime finish as City climbed to third in the table.

Stirling manager Stuart McLaren resigned after the game.

ARBROATH 0 COWDENBEATH 0

ARBROATH did everything but score.

Both keepers Robbie Mutch and David McGurn were in fine form but it could have been so different had the hosts taken a hatful of first-half chances.

Martin Scott’s perfectly-executed overhead kick went just inches over and Josh Skelly’s low effort hit the post.

At the other end, Mutch blocked from Nikolay Todorov and Fraser Mullen.

Late on, McGurn parried an Omar Kader diving header.

Arbroath are now 11 points adrift of their Angus rivals Forfar, with Fifers Cowden 14 adrift after just seven games.

MONTROSE 0 BERWICK 0

MONTROSE’S Chris Templeman had a chance in 13 minutes but headed wide from a Ryan Ferguson corner.

Three minutes later, Templeman headed over from a Ross Campbell cross.

In 18 minutes, Ross Campbell burst forward but was denied by keeper Kevin Walker.

Templeman was out of luck again in 28 minutes when his shot hit the underside of the bar and stayed out.

In 61 minutes, a shot from Templeman hit the inside of the post and again somehow stayed out.

Graham Webster headed over from an Iain Campbell free-kick, then Templeman headed wide from another corner.
