It was the Emley Moor Mast.
At 1084ft high, it is the 23rd tallest tower in the world and the tallest freestanding structure in the UK – 66ft taller than The Shard in London.
Grade 2 listed, the concrete mast is used for telecommunications and broadcasting.
Emley Moor has been a transmission site since the earliest days of TV, and the present mast is the third structure to occupy the site.
