Magnificent Denzel spurred on by sport
THERE’S nothing better than a great theme tune to get you in the mood.
When you hear John Williams’ Star Wars music you know you’re being transported to a galaxy far, far away.
Similarly, if you hear the James Bond guitar sting it’s going to be a world of guns, girls and gadgets.
And, of course, the old Scotsport theme transports you to a world of goalmouth stramashes and balding centre-halfs.
Hearing that Magnificent Seven music again takes you back to the gun-slinging corral with Yul Brynner and Steve McQueen.
The classic 1960 western has been remade and it’s fantastic fun.
It’s hard to fill the cowboy boots of the original cast – so the likes of Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt and Ethan Hawke have moseyed on in to take over.
I had a chat with the three of them last week before the premiere of The Magnificent Seven, and Denzel was on good form.
I asked him if he was into cowboys when he was younger.
“I wanted to be a football player. So I wanted to be a cowboy…but it was a Dallas Cowboy!”
Chris Pratt is one of Hollywood’s hottest properties after starring in smash hits Jurassic World and Guardians Of The Galaxy.
“We had fun, you can see when you watch it – we were shooting guns, riding horses, wearing hats, it was hot, it was mean. It was great fun!
“For the audience it’s about the destination, the finished movie. For us it’s about making the movie. We became a tight-knit family by the end.”
Last week I got to meet the gorgeous Kate Hudson (pictured left), daughter of Goldie Hawn.
She’s starring in Deepwater Horizon, the real-life disaster movie with a family member – but it’s not Goldie.
There was a small role for a newcomer in this film – his name was Kurt…Russell? Of course Kurt is Kate’s step-dad! “It was really cool!” she told me. “At the end of the day, he’s just my dad.
“Usually people make the connection with my mom and point out my mom is Goldie.
“Then people go: ‘Oh yeah, Kurt’s her step-dad!’
“I get asked if I asked my parents for advice when I was growing up. It wasn’t really like that, though.
“With us it’s about emotionally where we’re at. When we talk about work – we call it going to the office – it’s about something really fun that’s happened.”
