Authorkept his writing a secret
BOOKER prize nominated Graeme Macrae Burnet has revealed that he kept his writing ambitions quiet when he worked as a bookseller in Glasgow.
But the 59-year-old author’s cover was rumbled when he had to take a day off to pick up an award for new writers.
Burnet, who was nominated for crime novel His Bloody Project, worked at Waterstones over Christmas in 2013.
He said: “I kept it pretty quiet. Unless you’re actually doing it, it can all seem a bit hollow. I think actions speak louder than words.
“When I was working in Waterstones I had won a Scottish book trust New Writers award and I had to ask for the day off to go to Edinburgh.”
