CONSERVATIVE MSP Brian Whittle has been outed as a Star Trek geek.

Impressing some, and puzzling others, at a roundtable on health policy this week, he voiced his frustration with ministers by channelling Scotty: “The more they overthink the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain.”

Trekkies of a certain age might remember the USS Enterprise’s engineer, played by James Doohan, uttering the line in Star Trek III: The Search For Spock.
