The genius of Valerie
IT’S amazing what you can do with a good idea and a Singer sewing machine.
I’d never heard of Valerie Hunter-Gordon until her death last week at the age of 94 in Beauly, Inverness-shire.
She was a Scots mum-ofsix who invented the first disposable nappy for babies in the ’40s.
Where would we be without the Army wife’s genius?
Think of day trips and holidays without disposable nappies!
Every time I change the nappy of my granddaughter Grace Janie, putting it inside its little bag to be binned, I marvel at the miracle of not having to wash nappies.
And now I know who to thank. Valerie HunterGordon – generations of women salute you.
