- TENNIS TABLE TENNIS ANGLING

RUSSIA’S Svetlana Kuznetsova has secured the final place at the WTA Finals in Singapore – at the expense of Britain’s Johanna Konta – by winning the Kremlin Cup in Moscow.

The defending champion and top seed overcame Australia’s Daria Gavrilova 6-2 6-1 to overtake Konta and claim the last spot for the seasonending eight-woman showpiece.

It is the sixth time in Kuznetsova’s career that she has qualified for the WTA Finals, while Konta, who earlier this month became the first British woman since Jo Durie in 1984 to make the world’s top 10, had been aiming for her first.

Konta is in Singapore and has been taking part in the build-up to the event but, having been sidelined by an abdominal injury, could do nothing but watch and wait.
