1966 FROZEN IN TIME

-

ABERDEEN will be hoping their recent home record against Celtic continues on Saturday.

They won both times the Hoops visited last season, and although the Dons were thumped 4-1 at Celtic Park earlier this season, a transformation similar to 50 years ago would do them nicely.

That season they were hammered 7-1 in Glasgow by a Celtic team on course to win their first title in 12 years.

But when they visited Pittodrie four months later, Jock Stein’s side went down 3-1.

Among the goalscorers was Ernie Winchester, who had got the Dons’ consolation in Glasgow.

He scored 70 goals in 124 games for his hometown club, before heading for the USA to play for Chicago Spurs and Kansas City Spurs.

He returned for four years at Hearts and finished up at Arbroath.
