I WAS

-

delighted to hear the news that Ian Woosnam is going to be inducted into golf’s Hall Of Fame next year.

The only pity is that this didn’t happen five or six years ago. That would have allowed Ian to play freely on the Champions Tour.

At 58, Woosie should still be able to enjoy a good couple of years in America. But it would have made all the difference in his early 50s.

For some reason, Ian has often been overlooked and I can’t understand why. His record is up there with the very best.

A Masters Champion, winner of 52 events around the world, a successful Ryder Cup player and captain. Also a former World No.1 he ticked all the boxes.

However, receiving this honour won’t alter how fellow pros regard him. Ian has always had one of the best swings golf has ever seen.
