Widow Pays Tribute To ‘magical’ Hubby Peter

-

THE WIDOW of a pensioner who was killed by a reversing bin lorry has paid tribute to their “magical” marriage.

Peter Wills, 80, died on his daily ride in his electric wheelchair in 2014.

Last Tuesday, bin lorry driver Scott Hamilton was jailed for a year for causing Peter’s death.

Heartbroken widow Virginia, 80, was chopping wood in their back garden when the accident happened, just metres down the road.

Virginia said: “During the trial the procurator fiscal said, ‘you were married for 50 years and how would you sum up those 50 years?’

“The word that came into my mind, completely spontaneously was ‘paradise’.

“We never argued, we never had a harsh word for each other, anything, and the kids were thriving because of it.

“It’s the way that every family should be.”

In 2006 Peter suffered a stroke, which left him unable to speak or move on his right side and needing to use an electric wheelchair.

Virginia said she was busy chopping wood when the fatal crash happened.

She said: “I saw a policeman and I asked him if I could go past.

“He said ‘I think we need to come back to the house’. So he walked me back and he said that there had been a bit of an accident.”

The heartbroken widow added she did not blame jailed driver Scott Hamilton.
