DAVE EDWARDS’ secondhalf header helped managerless Wolves salvage a 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

In their first game following Walter Zenga’s departure, the midfielder’s second of the season 12 minutes from time was enough for a share of the spoils in a spirited encounter between two struggling sides.

Rovers were game as ever and looked to be heading out of the drop zone through Sam Gallagher’s stunning first-half volley. Wolves could do nothing about the early goal, which came in the 13th minute when Jason Lowe crossed towards Gallagher who showed superb technique to rifle home an unstoppable 12-yard volley into the roof of the net – his sixth strike of the season.

Wolves created three very good chances midway through the half. Conor Coady latched onto a Jon Dadi Bodvarsson knockdown but stabbed over from 12 yards, before a neat David Edwards flick trickled agonisingly wide.

Jason Steele then adjusted admirably to divert Coady’s deflected effort from range. At the other end, Ben Marshall produced a magnificent fingertip save from Carl Ikeme on the 38th minute. Rovers improved after the break, and just after the hour, Marvin Emnes found Gallagher in the area who should have scored but he was denied by a terrific point blank save by substitute goalkeeper Andy Lonergan.

However, it was Wolves who would find the back of the net next.

Steele pushed away a Joao Teixeira drive but Matt Doherty pounced and crossed to Edwards who nodded home. Wolves could have snatched it in the last 10 through Ivan Cavaleiro’s rasping drive, but Steele pulled off another fine save and the points were shared.
