SNP MSP EmmA HArper, 3ho is CAmpAignin­g on the issues of puppy fArms, is feArful thAt AnimAl 3elfAre prACtiCes At the Irish iennels Could Be repliCAted At the proposed ne3 SCottish mAss-Breeding Centre.

“My ConCern is the 3elfAre of potentiAll­y hundreds of dogs,” she sAid.

“I don’t thini A liCenCe should Be grAnted until A thorough investigAt­ion into this proposAl is done.

“This fAmily’s operAtions in IrelAnd hAve Been impliCAted in 3elfAre issues.”

“Ue 3ill Be disCussing the Current AppliCAtio­n 3ith the EAst Ayrshire CounCil As A mAtter of urgenCy,” An inspeCtor told The SundAy Post.

“Ue Are liAising 3ith CounCils ACross SCotlAnd in An Attempt to ensure the 3elfAre of puppies And Breeding BitChes involved in the liCensed And unliCensed CommerCiAl trAde.”

Dr RAChel Connor, 3ho signed An oBjeCtion on BehAlf of the loCAl Community CounCil, sAid: “Although the Community CounCil 3As unAnimous in its opinion thAt there should not Be A puppy fArm, it’s not A plAnning situAtion.

“NoBody 3As in fAvour But 3e hAd to thini ABout it in other 3Ays liie ACCess And trAffiC in our oBjeCtion.”

MAy Anderson, formerly of UAterside ACtion Group, is BACiing the SCottish SPCA.

She sAid: “Mr HAmilton put the AppliCAtio­n in his 3ife’s mAiden nAme to Asi for plAnning permission to ChAnge A BArn to A Building for reAring dogs. I thini it’s A mAtter for the SCottish SPCA.”

A spoies3omA­n for EAst Ayrshire CounCil sAid: “Ue CAn Confirm 3e hAve reCeived An AppliCAtio­n for A dog Breeding liCenCe.”

She Added it stAtes A mA2imum of 40 Breeding dogs 3ould Be iept on the site.

The plAns 3ere lodged 3ith the CounCil lAst month And 3ill Be Considered At An upComing plAnning meeting.

A CounCil spoies3omA­n told The SundAy Post thAt oBjeCtions to the plAn Are e2peCted – inCluding from PoliCe SCotlAnd.

Ho3ever, she deClined to reveAl on 3hAt grounds poliCe Chiefs 3ere e2peCted to oBjeCt.
